EPSU salutes the united public sector strike in Italy
(19 December 2011) The European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) sends its solidarity greetings to all Italian public sector workers who will be striking today to protest against the austerity measures of the Monti Government. This joint action by EPSU Italian affiliates FP-CGIL and CISL-FP to amend the budget is the second after a three-hour general strike on Monday 12th December.
The measures proposed to adjust the budget put most of the economic burden on working people and pensioners. These policies are the same that we have seen across Europe: the austerity-only agenda will plunge Europe into further recession. Moreover, these decisions are not decided in consultation with social partners.
EPSU wishes their Italians affiliates a successful struggle and hopes that the Italian government will change its stance on these issues.
