United Utilities and unions start discussions on a European Works Council
A delegation of the UK unions organising workers in United Utilities and Jan Willem Goudriaan for EPSU met with management in the companies headquarters 13 May 2004. The company has water operations in Estonia, Bulgaria, Poland
as well as in Australia, Philippines, US and other countries. It employs 17000 workers with 350 in Tallinn and 1000 in Sofia. Management questions that they have a controlling influence over their operations. This was discussed as well as the reasons why a European Works Council is worthwhile.
Discussions will continue in September.
