Romanian electricity unions prepare for strike action

The Romanian electricity trade unions are engaged in a long conflict with the government and some of the electricity companies. Key issues include ensuring investment plans are kept, that companies are in-sourced rather then outsourced, that the government keeps its promises to ensure workers get to share in the capital of the companies, wage negotiations are speeded up, and that the hydro- and nuclear power plants should be kept outside of restructuring plans.

The unions have engaged in a series of actions and the next one is foreseen for 27 May. If this is not successful, the union will take strike action and is already collecting the necessary signatures.

EPSU has sent a letter of protest to the prime minister Emil Bloc.
