UK Prison Trade Union PCS sends demands to Westminster and Welsh parliaments

(21 February, 2008, London) The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) represents over 4,800 members in HM Prison Service including administrators, managers, Governors and Instructional Officers. PCS has created postcards (attached) for prison staff to send to UK and regional Members of Parliament. The text states says; “the European prison population currently stands at over 600,000. In England and Wales 2/3 of prisons are overcrowded. As one of your constituents working in the Prison Service I know how this crisis is: compromising basic human dignity; costing the taxpayer millions; affecting staff workloads and budgets. Building more prisons is not the answer. Investment in tackling re-offending within HM Prison Service is vital”. PCS have lobbied MP’s to table an early day motion to draw attention to this issue.
