European Trade Union chief calls on EPSU to lead public service debate to heart of Europe
John Monks, the General Secretary of the European Trade Union
Confederation, congratulated EPSU on its contribution to the structure and political direction of the ETUC. Speaking at the anniversary celebrations, he stated that the ETUC had benefited enormously from EPSU’s continuing commitment to putting public services at the heart of the debate on Europe. In particular, recognition was given to the role played in the debate on services of general interest. He stated that
threats to the right of EU citizens to receive high quality,
democratically accountable services, were increasing in the current political climate: EPSU was in the vanguard of the response to these threats. SPEECH TO FOLLOW
