At the service of Munichs citizens
Carola Fischbach-Pyttel addressed an action day organised by Munich’s municipal service providers on 13 October. Congratulating the organisers for their initiative she stressed the influence of EU competition and internal market rules are having on the organisation of municipal services. Local activists from the Ver.di union and Attac used the occasion to collect some 2000 signatures for the ETUC petition.
This is the 3rd time this action day for local public services has been hold, this year also run in 3 other towns of Bavaria. A very broad range of services were presented, from construction, cimetaries, culture, funeral services, libaries, housing, health, hospitals, public parks, schools, to water, waste.
The social democrat mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, made a fervent plea against privatisation and for municipal services, based on experiences from other countries.
