EPSU sister organization, Public Services International (PSI) elect new
General Secretary
(Vienna, 27 September, 2007) Public Services International (PSI) elected Peter Waldorff as General Secretary, at their World Congress in Vienna. Waldorff has been President of HK-Stat, the Danish union for government and public employees, since 2001. He has been a member of PSI’s executive board since 1998 and is also President of the National Administration Standing Committee in EPSU.
In his acceptance speech, Waldorff stated that “From today we stay united. I reach out two hands to all of you. We will go forward in friendship, solidarity and success in our future co-operation.” He paid tribute to Keith Sonnet from UNISON, who also ran for the post. “Keith, I thank you for the contest, which was a friendly one. We have both shown deep respect for PSI and its affiliates,” he said.
EPSU General Secretary, Carola Fischbach-Pyttel warmly congratulated Peter Waldorff. She stated that; “Peter has long been an active and dynamic member of the EPSU family. I have full confidence that he will continue to flourish in his new role as PSI General Secretary, promoting public services on the global stage”.
Ms. Fischbach-Pyttel also expressed thanks to Keith Sonnet for his contribution to the election. “Keith showed real drive and commitment in his campaign, and can be proud of his role in ensuring that all PSI affiliates had an opportunity to constructively engage in the issues.
