Water companies in Europe - private equity more active; concentration continues
(7 May 2007) A new report is available on the water companies in Europe 2007. It demonstrates the continued withdrawal of the water multinationals from developing countries but also in Europe. The market for private operations is even more concentrated then some years ago with Veolia and Suez dominating the market. Other companies have concentrated on national markets and reduced their presence. Some Spanish companies are more active like FCC while SAUR has been bought by the French state bank Caisse des Depots et Consignations. The report will assist EPSU and affiliated unions in monitoring developments in the essential water and sanitation services. The report was commissioned by EPSU.
