Standing Committee adopts position on Commission progress report Water Framework Directive

The continued attention of the EU for improving water quality was welcomed by the trade unions. It was noted with concern that some water resources experience a decline in quality. The trade unions should be more involved in the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and especially when the Commission is stressing the use of economic instruments and wants to develop benchmarks for water operators. Commercialisation of water services is opposed by EPSU.
