Employment study shows: further joblosses because of internal market

(19 February 2007) The work group of the sectoral social dialogue committee electricity met 16 February 2007. It discussed: the results of the employment study. It is now in its final stage. EPSU warned against attempts of the Commission to "massage" away conclusions that are critical of the internal market for electricity and gas, or to drown the impact of liberalisation in a confuscating web of all kinds of other reasons for the job losses.

The employers and the unions agreed to draw conclusions for their work programme from the study.

The social dialogue committee discussed also:

* Corporate social responsibility: The draft report was presented.Employers and unions had little time to read and comment and a delay will be explored.
* Restructuring: The secretariats were asked to present a draft proposal on how to advance and which issues to be considered, including in the light of the employment study. A speaker of the European Commission will be invited for the next meeting

* Demografic ageing: A project will be prepared to be submitted to the European Commission for funding

* European Energy Policy: A speaker will be invited for the next meeting to consider the social consequences of the energy package that was presented by the European Commission on 10 January.
