Major alliance of worker organisations in joint call to national members

(15 February, 2007) Worker organisations with a combined membership of 15 million have today issued a joint call on their members calling for support for public services at the EU level. The General Secretaries of the EPSU, ETF, ETUCE and the President of Euromil called on their members to sign the European petition calling for a legal framework for public services at www.petitionpublicservice.eu.

The combined declaration covers employees in the Transport, Education, Military, Health, Social services, water, waste, Energy, Local Government and National Administration sectors.

EPSU General Secretary Carola Fischbach-Pyttel stated that; "this initiative is a clear indication of the groundswell of support for our initiative. We fully expect this call to echo throughout our membership and to give real momentum to the public services petition".

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is using the Petition as a central plank of its platform for the ETUC congress in Seville on 21-24 May.
