Sztrájk in Hungarian Energy - Energy workers express solidarity

EPSU’s Hungarian affiliate VdSzSz and several other unions are planning a national wide strike on 6 and 8 February. On 6 February workers will stop for 2 hours and on 8 February for 8 hours. The unions protest the bullying tactics used by the liberal minister who swept an earlier agreement reached in December of the table to enhance his political profile as a runner up to lead his party. The unions demand that the government respect earlier agreements that provide workers in the sector with cheaper electricity. The government now wants to abolish this but fails to say how the existing and the 40.000 retired workers will be compensated for this. It could drive retired workers into poverty wages, as electricity and gas prices increase. If the conflict is not resolved, further actions are foreseen for 12 February including a strike for an indeterminate period.

EPSU affiliated unions CGT-FNME (France) and SDE (Slovenia) will attend the preparations of the strike. Workers have striked in these countries. They will assist the union in its preparation. EPSU has sent a message of solidarity.

Information on the strike is also available on the website of the union
