Public service petition raised at Austrian Public Sector Union Congress
The Austrian public sector union Gewerkschaft Offentlicher Dienst held its 15th Congress, 5-7 December 2006, Vienna. “We stand for the vision of a Social Europe with high quality public services and decent pay and conditions” said EPSU Deputy General Secretary Jan Willem Goudriaan in his greetings to more then 800 delegates, 5 December. “We ask your support for the ETUC petition to collect one million signatures to promote a positive basis for public services in Europe, recognizing that public services are the expression of democratic decisions and our citizenship”. Other speakers included ÖGB President Rudolf Hundstorfer (former President of EPSU affiliate GdG) who addressed the reform of the Austrian trade unions and the Austrian BundesKanzler Schussel amongst others. He addressed change in the Austrian public administration and defended the social partnership approach. GÖD President Fritz Neugebauer and Vice President Richard Holzer, a member of the EPSU Executive Committee, are running for re-election. More information: http://www.goed.at/
