EPSU Italian and English affiliates call on MEP’s to protect public services in SERVICES DIRECTIVE VOTE
EPSU affiliates CGIL and CISL (Italy) have addressed each Italian Member on the European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee (see letter attached). Our UK affiliate GMB has also sent a letter to the UK Labour members and substitutes of the Internal Market Committee (Phillip Whitehead, Arlene McCarthy, Gary Titley, Stephen Hughes (see attached).
Those letters are aimed at the crucial vote to be held on the directive on 22 November. They have called for public services to be excluded from the directive. In addition the EPSU members have requested that action be taken on a Framework Directive on Services of general Interest, in advance of the Services Directive, particularly as the Constitutional Treaty has not been passed (the Commission had based it’s rationale for not having a framework directive on Article III-6 in the treaty). EPSU expects this action to be replicated across all EU Member States.
